I work at Community Cohesion for their guiding principle, “Not for, but with”. Thus I am able to walk with the victim and help them find ways to overcome their challenges. As a social worker who works closely with victims in a place of safety, I am able to provide support to those who have experienced victimisation.
This support includes addressing the trauma that was caused by this experience. I think the impact of my role in this place of safety is important by helping to reduce the impact of the abuse on the victim. Seeing these victims become empowered and gaining their confidence back, keeps me going.
